Service 05: AI SEO

AI SEO Services: AEO and GEO for SaaS and Fintech

When someone asks ChatGPT, Perplexity, or Google's AI Overview a question your product answers, does your brand show up in the response? For most companies right now, the honest answer is nobody has checked. This is the work of making sure it does: making your pages easy for AI tools to reach, read and quote, and checking whether it worked.

The application asks for your monthly organic traffic and your goals, so I can tell you quickly whether I am the right fit.

AEO (answer engine optimization) and GEO (generative engine optimization) are names for the same goal: getting AI tools to quote your pages in their answers, not just list them.

Google's own guidance says that for its search this is still SEO, with no special markup required (Google's guide). I take the same view, which is why this page is mostly about fundamentals and measurement.

01

What I actually change

01Crawler access. robots.txt rules for the search and user bots of OpenAI, Anthropic, Perplexity and Google, and a check that your CDN or firewall is not blocking them
02Content in the first response. Pages whose main text is in the HTML your server sends. A December 2024 study by Vercel and MERJ found that crawlers from OpenAI and Anthropic fetch JavaScript files but do not run them, so text built in the browser can be invisible to them (source)
03Answer-first pages. The question answered in the opening paragraph, a named author, a date, and cited sources
04Entity and trust signals. A clear About page, consistent profiles, and structured data that says who publishes a page and what it is
05Third-party mentions. The review sites, "best of" lists, communities and publications that AI answers can name, because being present there matters as much as your own pages
06Measurement. A fixed set of buyer questions, checked every month (below)
02

What I will not do or claim

01Guarantee citations. Nobody controls what an AI tool says.
02Sell llms.txt as a lever. Google says site owners do not need it for its AI search. It is optional and low priority.
03Sell FAQ schema as a growth tactic. Google stopped showing FAQ rich results in May 2026 (source). The markup stays valid, but it will not move AI visibility on its own.
04Promise traffic from AI answers. Answers can reduce clicks, so I report mentions and branded search next to traffic.

How I measure it

I agree 10 to 20 questions your buyers really ask, then run them monthly in ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google's AI Overviews. For each one I record whether you are mentioned, cited, or absent, and who is named instead. That table is the deliverable you keep.

04

How it runs

01

Baseline check

Does your brand show up in AI answers for the questions that matter, and if so, how.

02

Access and extractability audit

Separate from a normal SEO audit: can AI crawlers reach your pages, and can they read and quote what is there.

03

Implementation

Access rules, page structure and entity work, applied to your priority pages. I can make the changes or hand your developers exact instructions.

04

Monthly re-test

The same questions, checked again, so you can see whether mentions actually improved.

05

What I need from you

01Read-only access to Search Console and GA4
02Ten to twenty questions your buyers ask (I will help you draft them)
03Your top three competitors
04A developer contact for questions
06

When not to hire me

01You want FAQ schema added once. That is a small project, and I would be the wrong person to pay for it.
02Your site cannot be crawled or is badly broken. Fix that first, which is what my technical SEO work is for.
03You need guaranteed citations or a fixed number of mentions.
04You are a local business that needs Google Business Profile help. I focus on SaaS and fintech.
05You cannot change your content. AI visibility follows changes to the pages.
07

Built, not just described

I built the tools that run these checks, and I test changes on my own site and tools first. You can use them on your own site today. Each one says what it checks and what it does not.

08

Who this is for

SaaS and fintech companies with decent traditional SEO who want to know whether they appear in the search experience that is replacing it for a growing share of queries. This is new, and measurement is imperfect, so I am upfront about what can and cannot be promised.

09

Questions

How do you measure whether this is working?

By asking the same set of buyer questions in ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google's AI Overviews before and after the changes, every month, and recording whether your brand is mentioned, cited, or absent. Answers vary by person and by day, so I look at the pattern across the set, not one answer.

Is AI SEO different from AEO and GEO?

The names overlap. AEO, GEO and AI SEO all describe making your pages easy for AI tools to find, read and quote. If you are comparing generative engine optimization services, ask each provider what they actually change and how they measure it.

Does this replace normal SEO?

No, it sits on top of it. Traditional rankings and AI mentions are different problems that share most of their foundation: crawlable pages, clear content and a trustworthy site.

Can you guarantee my brand will get cited?

No, and I would be skeptical of anyone who says they can. Nobody controls what an AI tool says. What I can commit to is the process: a baseline, a clear list of changes, the work shipped, and a re-test that shows what moved, good or bad.

Do I need an llms.txt file?

Google's guide to generative AI features says site owners do not need llms.txt or other AI-specific files to appear in its AI search (Google guide). Other AI tools may treat the file differently, so it is optional and low on my list. Crawler access, readable pages and clear content come first.

Does schema markup help AI search?

Structured data tells machines who publishes a page and what it is, which helps rich results and clarity. Google's guide says it is not required for generative AI search and that no special markup is needed (Google guide). I add it where it is accurate and useful, not as a lever for AI citations.

Will blocking AI training bots hurt my visibility?

OpenAI says its crawler settings are independent: GPTBot is for model training and OAI-SearchBot is for surfacing sites in ChatGPT search. You can allow search and user bots and still block training bots. Bot names and behavior change, so check OpenAI's documentation before editing your robots.txt, and I will check it again when I audit.

Do I need to redo my whole site for this?

Usually not. It is mostly access, structure and clarity, not a rebuild. Genuinely disorganized content sometimes needs more work, and I will say so after the audit.

How do I know if I appear in ChatGPT today?

Ask your own buyer questions in ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity and note who gets named. For the technical side, run the free GEO Checker, which tests whether AI crawlers can reach and read your site.

Get ahead of the part of search most people are still ignoring.
